Mike Schreiner’s Statement on National Housing Day

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement to mark National Housing Day.

“National Housing Day reminds us of the importance of providing safe, affordable housing to every single person in our province and country.

Unfortunately, the Ford government is taking Ontario in exactly the wrong direction.

That’s why Ontario experienced the largest drop in housing starts of any other province this year, and why a staggering 81,000 are homeless. People cannot afford to live in Ontario.

We know what it’s going to take to solve the housing crisis – build more types of homes in the neighbourhoods people want to live in, protect renters and invest in deeply affordable, non-profit, co-op and supportive housing.Greens will continue to work to make sure that everyone in Ontario has a home they can afford close to friends, family and work.”
