Ford is MIA following another blow to auto manufacturing

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner responds to the announcement that General Motors will be ending production of Brightdrop electric delivery van production.

“Ontario’s auto sector is taking blow after blow, and Doug Ford has not presented a plan. The Ford government must step up, support workers and get serious about a made-in-Ontario EV strategy to protect our evolving auto sector and ensure we get our slice of the pie in the fast-growing green economy.

General Motors’ decision to end production in Ingersoll will have devastating and lasting consequences for the local economy, community and the more than 1,200 workers that relied on these jobs.

Greens are also calling on the federal government for a plan to push back against Trump’s attack on auto jobs. 

We need to see all levels of government come together to support the thousands of auto workers who have been left jobless and invest in Ontario’s homegrown tech and manufacturing sectors.”
