Clancy calls on Premier to end homelessness within ten years
October 21, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — In question period today, Aislinn Clancy called on the Premier to support Bill 28, Homelessness Ends with Housing.
“81,000 people in Ontario are facing homelessness. The fastest growing demographic? Seniors,” said Clancy.
“People experiencing homelessness are far more likely to end up in emergency rooms and spend extended time in hospitals.
A single month-long hospital stay costs the public health system over $60,000. A month in a provincial jail, which is how this government wants to address homelessness, costs $15,000.
Conversely, a month in supportive housing costs just $4000 and reduces strain on hospitals – Dunn House, a supportive housing development in Toronto reduced emergency department visits by 52 per cent for its residents, saving local hospitals $1.66 million.
We know the solution to homelessness. It’s housing.
“Will the Premier say YES to supporting seniors, saving money and ending homelessness by passing the Homelessness Ends with Housing Act to end chronic homelessness within 10 years?”
Clancy’s bill will be debated and voted on tomorrow.
