Something has got to give. Universities are counting on us.

KITCHENER — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement in response to a new Stats Canada analysis showing that funding for Ontario universities dropped significantly.

“Doug Ford’s spending is higher than ever, yet some of our most critical institutions are at risk.

Ontario’s colleges and universities are some of the best in the world. They prepare students for meaningful careers, lead groundbreaking research and create good jobs in their communities. But Premier Ford is starving them of funding. 

Ontario universities receive the lowest provincial funding in all of Canada, and students are the ones bearing the burden as they face program cuts, deteriorating buildings and increasing class sizes. 

Ontario universities and their students are the most vulnerable in the country. Doug Ford must step up and protect them. Ontario Greens renew our call for the Ford government to immediately increase per-student university and college funding by 20 per cent and commit to ongoing annual increases matching inflation.”
