Ford housing failures tank Ontario

OTTAWA — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to new data from the CMHC on national housing starts for July.

“Doug Ford can try to fudge the numbers all he wants by counting student dorms and long term care beds as ‘housing starts’ – but the facts don’t lie: Ontario is experiencing the largest drop in housing starts of any province.

The situation was already dire last year, and it’s only getting worse. From January to July, housing starts in Ontario fell 25% compared to the same time last year. 

Doug Ford is standing in the way of affordable housing for all by continuing to say NO to legalizing gentle density and missing middle housing; NO to government-funded affordable non-profit, co-op and supportive housing; and NO to keeping rents affordable. 

What we need are more homes people can afford, built faster, in the right places.The Premier is failing to deliver.”
