Ontario Greens announce their priorities for the new legislative session, with a focus on tariff-proofing Ontario
April 14, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — As the legislature returns, Ontario Greens announce their priorities for the new legislative session, with a focus on tariff-proofing Ontario. Greens will work across party lines to defend Ontario workers, jobs and companies. We will work hard to build a more resilient, affordable, and sustainable Ontario, prioritizing housing affordability, healthcare, protecting farmland, and investing in made-in-Ontario energy solutions.
“Life in Ontario is hard right now, and it’s only getting harder in the face of an escalating trade war,” said Ontario Greens Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy. “There’s no hope for a thriving economy when people can’t afford a place to live or access reliable, public healthcare.”
“We’re calling for 2 million homes to be built in communities people love, near the people they love—not on the Greenbelt and farmland. This will address the housing crisis, create good construction jobs, and protect our natural spaces..
“We’re ready to work with all parties to put people first, and deliver on the issues that matter most: more homes, better healthcare and good clean jobs. That’s how we’ll get through these challenging times.” said Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner.
As MPPs return to Queen’s Park this week, Ontario Greens are focused on tariff-proofing Ontario by building a stronger, more self-sufficient and resilient province, though:
- Protecting farmland from urban sprawl so we can protect our $50 billion food economy, be more self-reliant, buy local, and feed ourselves;
- Bringing down housing costs by legalizing more types of homes, protecting renters – so everyone has a place to call home in an affordable, local economy;
- Investing in made-in-Ontario, renewable energy so we can get off expensive, polluting fossil fuels including American fossil gas, and create cheaper energy, lower bills and good clean jobs;
- Fighting to save public healthcare from American-style privatization, including low-barrier mental health and addictions care for everyone who needs it.
