Ontario Greens call on the Ford government to reverse their decision to close CTS sites

March 31, 2025

QUEEN'S PARK — On today’s planned closure of 10 supervised consumption sites across the province, Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner and Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy are calling on the Ford government to reverse their decision.

“The Ford’s government’s decision to close these sites will cost lives and make our communities less safe,” said Clancy, who spent this morning at the supervised consumption site in Kitchener on Duke street alongside advocates, meeting with people struggling with addictions and care workers.

“We need an evidence-based approach to tackling the worsening addictions crisis,” said Schreiner. “Experts are clear that we need a care-first approach for people struggling with addictions.”

While the recent court injunction delayed the immediate closing of some sites, without continued funding from the province, the sites will not be able to support those accessing care. Additionally, there is no clear timeline for funding HART Hubs, creating a huge service gap that leaves local care providers in the dark on the roll out.

“Where are people struggling with addictions supposed to go?” Clancy questioned. “The Ford government needs to reverse this decision immediately or lives will be lost.”
