Aislinn Clancy sworn in as MPP for Kitchener Centre

December 22, 2023

QUEEN'S PARK — Following her momentous byelection victory on November 30, Aislinn Clancy has been sworn in as the MPP for Kitchener Centre.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment,” Clancy told supporters at Queen’s Park on Thursday.

“I am so grateful to the Kitchener community for putting their trust in me. I’m honoured to be your elected representative, and I can’t wait to get to work as your voice at Queen’s Park.

“Whether it’s fighting for real housing solutions, better childcare or all-day, two-way GO, I promise to stand strong against Doug Ford’s destructive agenda and bring home better for our community.”

Clancy, a former city councillor and school social worker, is the second Green MPP to be elected in Ontario. She secured 48 percent of the vote in the Kitchener Centre byelection held last month.

Clancy will join Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner at Queen’s Park when the Ontario Legislature resumes sitting in February 2024.

“Watching Aislinn be sworn into the legislature today was a true privilege,” said Schreiner. “I know that she will be a strong, effective advocate for her community, and I’m looking forward to working with her in 2024 and beyond.

“This is a huge moment for the Ontario Greens, and a sign that our Green wave is growing. It’s clear that our commitment to people over party is resonating with Ontarians, and we’ll keep working hard to make their lives easier and more affordable.”
