Schreiner calls on Ford government to repeal Bill 124 and support nurses’ mental health

February 22, 2022

Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner calls on the Premier to repeal Bill 124 and make mental health care permanently affordable and accessible to nurses.

QUEEN’S PARK — Today in the first Question Period of the spring sitting, Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner called on the Ford government to repeal Bill 124 and make mental health care permanently affordable and accessible to nurses.

“The healthcare system is hanging on by a thread. Nurses are leaving the profession because of poor working conditions. I’m calling on the Premier to do the right thing, show nurses the respect they deserve, and repeal Bill 124 immediately,” Schreiner said in the House before speaking at a Repeal Bill 124 rally organized by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

“It is ridiculous that the government is still attacking nurses with legislation that caps their compensation and suppresses their right to collective bargaining.”

“After two years of the pandemic, nurses are at a breaking point — overworked, underpaid and underappreciated”, Schreiner said in the House. This afternoon, he is tabling a motion to significantly expand mental health coverage under OHIP that would help nurses and all Ontarians to access the mental health care they need.
