Ford threatening Lake Simcoe with reckless development

Lake Simcoe needs to be protected, and that means saying no to environmentally damaging projects like the Orbit development.

TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding the Orbit development:

“Lake Simcoe is already severely at risk. Yet Doug Ford insists on pushing forward with the Orbit development, which risks sending huge amounts of chemical runoff into the lake.

We need to choose smart development that doesn’t unnecessarily harm our natural heritage.

In addition to damaging Lake Simcoe, the development will pave over farmland and increase emissions-causing sprawl. It’s irresponsible.

Instead of developing with reckless abandon, Ontario needs to champion smart growth that preserves and protects environmentally sensitive areas like Lake Simcoe.

And that’s exactly what Ontario Greens propose with our housing strategy to build livable and affordable communities.
