Green Party of Ontario leader, Mike Schreiner, made the following statement for Ramadan.
“On behalf of the Green Party of Ontario, Ramadan Mubarak!
This week, Muslims in Ontario and around the world begin observing Ramadan, the month of fasting. It is a time of reflection, empathy, humility, sympathy, devotion and gratefulness.
As Muslims fast on these long summer days and seek to help those in their community, they are reminded of God’s many mercies and blessings. Ramadan not only increases spirituality, but also teaches a discipline of unselfishness, altruism and kindness.
Ramadan also reminds us that we live in a province that is ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse and rich. During Ramadan, as Muslims gather each night for iftar and share their Ramadan traditions with friends, family, neighbours and co-workers, we are reminded of the mutual respect that we extend to each other every day and of the harmony in which we live. These are the strong bonds of community, family and friendship that are at the core of every Ontarian.
As the month of Ramadan progresses, I encourage all of us to take the time to reflect on how fortunate we are and make a strong commitment to help those in need.”
