From a young age, Lydia Nyilasi West felt strongly about the environment and joined recycling clubs in school, where she would literally rummage through garbage to find paper and bottles. Having grown up half in the industrial city of Hamilton, and also in the Hungarian forest, Lydia developed a love of nature while also appreciating the issues and requirements of urban centres.
Lydia grew up travelling to Europe with her high school teacher parents and then continued to travel as a fashion model for ten years. During this time she spent 2-3 months at a time working in different cities across Europe and Asia, and also attended Ryerson University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Contemporary Studies. For the past three years she has worked at a fast-growing “software as a service” startup company in Ottawa that caters to small to medium sized businesses. She has championed various causes at her workplace, especially fundraising for the Ottawa Food Bank.
Lydia speaks four languages: English and Hungarian fluently, and French and German conversationally.
Lydia has seen first hand the hard and efficient work that the Green Party of Ontario does as part of the Provincial Executive for the past two years. Lydia believes in the GPO wholeheartedly. She wants to grow her commitment to the GPO and assist as part of the Provincial Executive for another term.
