Call the MPPs and Ministers who want to carve up the Greenbelt
Using our digital call tool, you can call an MPP or Minister in Doug Ford’s government and tell them to listen to the thousands of people across the province who want them to keep their hands off the Greenbelt and invest in liveable, affordable communities that protect nature and crush climate pollution.
You will either be connected with an MPP whose riding falls within the Greenbelt, or a minister responsible for policy decisions related to climate, housing or other adjacent portfolios.
Talking points
A direct phone call to an MPP’s legislative office can make a big difference. Please use the following points to get your message across:
- Introduce yourself
(e.g., I’m a grandmother, father, newcomer, farmer, student, resident of ____ city, etc.). - Tell them you want their government to repeal Bill 23, scrap its plan to allow development on protected Greenbelt land, and scrap the proposed Greenbelt highway projects – Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass.
Let them know why this is important to you and your community. - Make the pitch (in brief!):
- I am calling you because you are an MPP who represents the residents of the Greenbelt OR you are a Minister who governs this legislation.
- Like many thousands of people across Ontario, I am angry about Premier Ford’s decision to break his promise and open the Greenbelt for development.
- The Greenbelt is a precious resource that should not be recklessly carved up to make space for more urban sprawl.
- Paving over the Greenbelt will destroy farmlands that feed us and wetlands that protect us from severe weather – all in the midst of a climate crisis
- There is more than enough land within existing urban boundaries to build the housing we need.
- Environmental groups, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and even your government’s own housing affordability taskforce have repeatedly said that this move is not necessary to build more housing.
- I’m asking you to support the countless thousands of Ontarians calling on the government to repeal Bill 23, reverse plans to allow development on the Greenbelt and scrap the Greenbelt highway projects – Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass.
Tips for the call
Our system makes calling MPPs easy. The call tool will automatically connect you to their Queen’s Park offices using the phone number you provide. You may be able to speak to the MPP, but you will probably reach an assistant or voicemail. Once the call rings through to your phone, use the talking points above as a guide.
- Use a headset or hands-free — This will give you both hands to take notes about what was said.
- Be polite but firm — Make sure to ask for a response and provide them with return contact information.
- Thank them for their time and attention.
