Bill 5
Just a few weeks ago, Doug Ford rammed a dangerous and highly controversial bill through the legislature, disguised as an economic growth plan.
In actuality, Bill 5 is nothing short of a power grab. It would allow Ford and his government to give wealthy insiders the greenlight to bulldoze without consequences – a free pass to ignore provincial and municipal laws.
Indigenous rights, public consultation, environmental assessments, and labour protections: all out the window.
On top of all that? Bill 5 repealed the Endangered Species Act, replacing it with severely weakened protections that are not science-backed, leaving Ontario’s most vulnerable species at risk of extinction.
A Pattern of Power Grabs
Bill 5 isn’t the first time the Ford government has prioritized private interests over public good. In fact, it’s an ugly pattern of this government.
From the infamous Greenbelt giveaway, to the pay-to-play Ontario Place spa and parking garage complex, to selling off our public health care system in favour of for-profit clinics.
We can’t stop pushing back against Ford’s backroom deals that ignore the public good.
Ontarians deserve better. This summer, let’s take the power back.
