Get off the Road Ford
We Dont Need Another Highway
After being abandoned and forgotten for seven long years, rural communities across the province are demanding change. They’re demanding a real plan for rural Ontario.
The Ontario Greens just shared an ambitious new plan to:
- Addressing housing affordability and homelessness in rural communities by building at least 250,000 new affordable non profit and co-op rental homes and 60,000 permanent supportive homes with guaranteed operational funding and make provincial land available at no cost
- Expanding rural health care access by increasing funding for rural hospitals, recruiting more doctors, and fixing the staffing shortage by providing equal pay for nurses, doctors and personal support workers
- Supporting Ontario’s food and farming sector by establishing a Food Belt to protect prime farmland, investing in local food hubs that will benefit local farmers, supply chains, and businesses
- Protecting the places we love by reversing the government’s attack on environmental protections, prohibiting 400 series highways in the Greenbelt and canceling Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass, creating a BlueBelt to protect Ontario’s lakes, rivers, and wetlands, and working with Indigenous communities to conserve and protect 30 percent of natural areas by 2030
- Launching a rural infrastructure fund and implementing a $2 billion-a-year Climate Adaptation Fund to help municipalities make their infrastructure more resilient to the impacts of climate change
But we need your help to get it done.
