About Mike

Schreiner echoes Marten Falls First Nation’s call for justice in fight against Bill 5
August 7, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in support of Marten Falls First Nation’s demand that the Ford government uphold treaty rights in any potential development in the Ring of Fire:
“The Ontario Greens stand in solidarity with Marten Falls First Nation in calling on the Ford government to honour treaty obligations, uphold the principles of UNDRIP and commit to meaningful consultation on development in the Ring of Fire.
Bill 5 threatens Indigenous rights, weakens environmental and worker protections and puts Ontario’s land and water at risk. Development moves faster and more successfully when it’s done the right way: through meaningful consultation and the free, prior and informed consent of First Nations from the start.
The Ford government must immediately repeal Bill 5, commit to genuine consultation and work in true partnership with First Nations toward development that respects their land and livelihoods.”
