Schreiner: Ford’s path of destruction is about to hit Ontario’s beloved parks
July 22, 2025
GUELPH — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the government's proposed legislative amendments to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act:
“Doug Ford isn’t stopping at Bill 5, now, he’s targeting Ontario’s beloved provincial parks.
The Ford government’s latest proposal would sell off nearly a third of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and gut a key section of the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, putting the rest of our provincial parks under threat.
Ontario parks belong to the people, not wealthy Ford-connected insiders.
Our parks are home to species at risk, vital wetlands, and ecological features that protect nearby communities from flooding and extreme weather. They are also cherished spaces where Ontario families can camp, hike, swim, paddle, and connect with each other and nature.
Just like with Bill 5, Ford is stripping away hard-won protections that safeguard people and the environment, all to benefit wealthy insiders.
Left unchecked, Doug Ford will continue selling off the places that make Ontario special, piece by piece, until there’s nothing left.
We need to protect Ontario from Doug Ford and the wealthy insiders who want to pave over the places we love.”
