Schreiner: Ford plows ahead with tax-payer funded oil and gas handout

GUELPH — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to ongoing discussions around feasibility studies for new pipeline infrastructure:

“I’m deeply disappointed to see Premier Ford ignoring the $2.2 Trillion of investment pouring into renewable energy this year and pushing ahead with what amounts to a taxpayer-funded handout to oil and gas companies.

Instead of using this time with the premiers to discuss real solutions to an escalating trade-war and affordability crisis, he is wasting time peddling projects that will only waste taxpayer dollars and accelerate climate change.

As global investment rapidly shifts toward clean energy, Ontario should be leading the transition, not clinging to the past. We need bold investments in renewables, energy efficiency, and a green economy that creates good paying jobs, diversifies our economy and lowers energy costs.

Climate change is already driving up the cost of healthcare, infrastructure, food and emergency response. This pipeline plan will only make things worse.

We need a future that works for people, not pipelines.”
