Ontario Greens acknowledge the tragic violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals on Red Dress Day, call for action from government
May 5, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader and Guelph MPP, Mike Schreiner, and Deputy Leader and Kitchener Centre MPP, Aislinn Clancy, released the following statement acknowledging Red Dress Day, and calling for action from all levels of government to end violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals.
“Today we mourn alongside the families, friends and communities who have lost a loved one to violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals, and with the women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people who continue to suffer from violence and abuse.
As we reflect today, we must hold ourselves and our government accountable, and demand immediate and real action to prevent violence and to seek justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
The Ontario Greens remain committed to the 231 calls to action from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and urge all levels of government to strengthen efforts to address each call.
Today and everyday, we must work together to address the systemic, root causes of violence and Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people, including racism, colonialism, poverty, lack of social services and the enduring harms of Canada’s residential schools.
No more stolen sisters.”
