“A waste of time and tax dollars”: Schreiner on two year 401 tunnel feasibility study

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner comments on news that the feasibility study for 401 tunnel will take up to two years:

“It makes no sense for Ford to throw money at this wasteful pipe dream, during a time when people are worried about losing their jobs, and lack access to affordable homes and healthcare.

The study will no doubt cost taxpayers millions of dollars, on top of the more than $100B that will be spent on the tunnel itself, with no guarantee that it will address gridlock in the GTA.

It’s not fair to people outside the GTA for the Premier to waste billions on this tunnel scheme when they are struggling to keep emergency departments open and rural roads and bridges safe.

This tunnel will make gridlock worse, create traffic chaos and increase climate pollution.

If Ford wants to address gridlock, he should give people more affordable options to get around – like transit and biking – and build affordable homes so people can afford to live in the communities they know and love without having long, expensive commutes.”
