Schreiner calls for climate-ready infrastructure and buy-local strategy at OGRA Conference

April 2, 2025

TORONTO — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner called for climate-ready infrastructure and a buy-local strategy at the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) Annual Conference this morning.

“As we face the impact of Trump’s tariffs, Greens are committed to working across party lines and jurisdictions to support Canadian jobs and Canadian workers.

As a former local food small business owner, I’ve been advocating for buy-local for decades. There’s never been a better time to support local and defend our food sovereignty– but we need to step up with tools like investment tax credits, and real protections for the farmland that is being paved over.”

Schreiner called for the urgent need for climate-ready infrastructure to protect roads, bridges and communities across Ontario, noting how the recent ice storm has further exposed the vulnerabilities of our roads and infrastructure to the impacts of severe weather.

“When I meet with municipal leaders across the province, they often ask me why the Ford government is spending $2.2 billion on a foreign-owned mega-spa, $100 billion on a tunnel, and over $10 billion on Highway 413 – when meanwhile their roads and bridges are crumbling.”

Schreiner also highlighted the Ontario Greens’ plans for fiscal fairness and stable and predictable funding for municipalities.
