Statement on International Women’s Day
March 8, 2025
KITCHENER — Ontario Greens’ Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy released the following statement to mark International Women’s Day.
“International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to celebrate the strength and power of women and gender-diverse people around the world.
From my friends and family to my colleagues in Kitchener and at Queen’s Park, I am grateful to live and work alongside so many smart, powerful women who break barriers every day.
Today, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the roots of International Women’s Day, which began in the labour movement as a collective forum for women to demand political and economic equity.
We must keep that spirit of advocacy alive today by continuing to demand better for women and gender-diverse people in Ontario. It’s clear that we have so much further to go.
Intimate partner violence is rampant across our province and country, and yet the Ford government has repeatedly refused to call it what it is – an epidemic.
Public sectors like nursing, teaching and carework – sectors primarily led by women and gender-diverse people – are routinely overworked, underpaid and undervalued by our governments.
Trans and gender-diverse people still face so many barriers to accessing life-saving gender-affirming care on a daily basis.
On International Women’s Day, I’m calling on all of my colleagues to join me in demanding better – and that starts by making smart policy decisions that advance the social, economic and political rights of women and gender-diverse people every single day.”
