Ontario Greens announce Plan for Gen Z

February 23, 2025

KITCHENER — Ontario Greens’ Leader Mike Schreiner joined Deputy Leader and Kitchener Centre candidate Aislinn Clancy and Toronto–St. Paul’s candidate Chloe Tangpongprush to announce the party’s Plan for Gen Z to support young Ontarians. They were joined by a number of Gen Z and young candidates from across the province, including Joshua Miersch (Don Valley East), Jessica Riley (Kitchener South-Hespeler), Andrew Armstrong (Don Valley North), and Ethan Russell (Brampton West).

“Doug Ford has failed our generation,” said public transit advocate and student Chloe Tangpongprush, who is the youngest candidate in the entire Ontario general election. “Greens have a real plan for an Ontario where our generation can afford a home and an education, access reliable public transit, and get the mental health care you need.”

“We need the voices of young people now more than ever,” said Aislinn Clancy. “Greens are fighting for generational fairness. Our kids deserve a livable future.”

“Under Doug Ford, so many young Ontarians have given up hope,” said Mike Schreiner. “Homes aren’t being built, mental health care is inaccessible, and our environment and climate is under attack.”

“Too often youth voices are ignored and forgotten. That’s why I’m announcing our Plan for Gen Z to give young Ontarians a voice and make their lives more affordable, healthy and hopeful:

  • Eliminate interest on all student debt, and provide grants for all low and middle income students to cover post-secondary tuition
  • Make public transit fast & frequent, including implementing All-Way 2-Way GO
  • Build 2 million homes and remove fees and taxes for people purchasing their first home, so young Ontarians can enter the housing market
  • Reduce youth mental health wait times to 30 days or less
  • Decrease the voting age to 16 so Gen Z has a voice in their future
  • Take bold action on the climate emergency, including investing in clean, renewable energy and phasing out expensive fossil gas plants by 2035 so Gen Z has a livable future”
