Mike Schreiner announces plan to help Ontarians save money by saving energy
February 19, 2025
TORONTO/FLESHERTON — Ontario Greens’ leader Mike Schreiner joined local candidate and Grey Highlands councillor, Joel Loughead to announce the party’s Affordable Energy Plan to help people save money by saving on energy costs.
“People in our community know when they’re being offered a bad deal,” said Loughead, “And we’re tired of watching Doug Ford hand out contracts to billionaire corporations like Enbridge and Trans Canada Energy while families are struggling to pay their energy bills every month.”
“It’s time we put people first by providing a real solution to help people save on their energy bills so that they have more money left over to keep up with the cost-of-living.”
“We all know that Doug Ford’s government is in the pocket of big oil and gas,” said Schreiner. “Instead of protecting people’s energy bills, Doug Ford chose to protect the profits of oil and gas giant Enbridge by overturning an independent energy board decision that would have ended the gas hook up subsidy for Enbridge.”
“Our plan will put people before big oil and gas profits, and help people save money by saving energy.
Ontario Greens’ Affordable Energy Plan will:
- Provide a free heat pump for households with incomes under $100,000 and zero interest loans for households over $100,000;
- Stop giving hydro rebates to the wealthiest Ontarians and redirect that money to help low and middle income earners lower their bills;
- Remove HST on heat pumps, hot water heating, solar panels, EV chargers and energy retrofits; and
- Implement a $10,000 grant and upfront zero interest loan programs for energy efficiency building retrofits for households with incomes under $100,000 and zero interest loan program for energy efficiency building retrofits for households with incomes over $100,000.
Next, Schreiner will be in Wellington–Halton Hills for an announcement with local candidate and Centre Wellington Councillor Bronwynne Wilton.
