Mike Schreiner stands up for fairness at Ontario Leaders’ Debate

February 18, 2025

TORONTO — At the Ontario Leaders’ Debate, Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner called out Doug Ford’s seven years of abandoning the needs of everyday people and outlined his vision for a fairer Ontario where people come before billionaire profits.

“In Doug Ford’s Ontario, the rich are getting richer while the rest of us are just struggling to get by,” said Schreiner. “Rents are unaffordable in every city across the province. Food bank use is at an all-time high. And Mr. Ford is handing out $200 cheques to millionaires and billionaires like Galen Weston. It’s not fair.”

“Ontario Greens will lower taxes for low- and middle-income earners, saving you up to $1,700. We’ll end price gouging at the grocery store and build homes you can afford in the communities you love.”

Schreiner criticized Doug Ford’s failure to build homes and bring housing costs down while championing Ontario Greens’ First Time Homebuyers Plan.

“We have a whole generation of people who are never going to be able to afford a home,” said Schreiner. “We have to start getting back to building, and we need a government that will say yes.”

“That’s why Ontario Greens have committed to building two million homes and easing restrictions on missing-middle housing. We will unlock housing people can afford in the communities they know and love.”

Schreiner directly called out Doug Ford for allowing Ontarians on ODSP and OW to live in legislated poverty, and called out the Ford government’s criminalization of homelessness.

“My commitment to you is that I will fight to put you and your community first. I will fight for fairness,” said Schreiner. “What separates Greens from every party up here is that we’re running local champions who will be your voice at Queen’s Park – not their party’s voice in the riding.”
