Schreiner calls out Ford’s attack on farmland at Parry Sound–Muskoka farm visit
February 15, 2025
SOUTH RIVER — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner and Deputy Leader and local candidate Matt Richter toured a farm in Parry Sound–Muskoka to highlight the party’s plan to protect farmland, support farmers, and address the needs of rural communities.
“Doug Ford hasn’t just abandoned rural and northern communities – he’s actively attacking their farmland” said Schreiner, who emphasized that Ontario is losing over 300 acres of farmland a day. “Now more than ever, farmers are our food security.”
“Ontario Greens are committed to protecting farmland, supporting farmers, and investing in Ag-tech to support innovation like the vertical farming you see here at Marquee Farm. In doing so, we can produce more food at home by growing year-round, support local grocers, and create more jobs in our communities.”
“The needs of people living in rural communities in the Almaguin Highlands are every bit as important as the needs of people living in big cities like Toronto,” said Richter. “But the Ford government has abandoned these communities.”
“Matt is going the extra mile to make sure that people in Parry Sound–Muskoka know that he has their backs. I know that as your MPP, he’ll take care of the people and places we love.” Schreiner said. “I know just how important it is to support farmers and I’m excited to see what Matt will accomplish for folks here in South River and across the riding.”
Tomorrow, Schreiner and Richter will join Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) representatives in Huntsville for an endorsement and an announcement about education.
