Schreiner takes aim at Ford’s housing failures, outlines Green plan for fairness at FONOM

NORTH BAY — At the Northern Ontario debate hosted by the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities, Ontario Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner highlighted Ontario Greens’ plan to restore fairness to Northern Ontario after seven years of Doug Ford’s abandonment.

“The Ford government has abandoned Northern Ontario,” said Schreiner. “They’re wasting billions on tunnels and spas in downtown Toronto while our Northern communities are just trying to get their highways maintained.”

“Northern communities have been living with the crushing pressure brought on by the provincial government for seven years now. Ontario Greens know you deserve better, and we can invest in our communities and our people, lower taxes, build homes and protect the places we love.”

Schreiner took aim at Doug Ford’s utter failure on housing and outlined Ontario Greens’ plan to build more homes and bring down costs.

“Because of Doug Ford, housing starts are at an all-time low and housing costs are at an all-time high. We have a whole generation of young people wondering if they’ll ever be able to afford a home.

“Greens are going to fight for generational fairness and remove red tape so we can get serious about building fourplexes and four stories. We’re going to bring back protections for renters and build the 332,000 affordable and supportive homes municipalities are asking for.”

Schreiner called out Ford’s callousness toward the mental health and addictions crises and championed Greens’ plan to deal with the crisis of caring facing communities across the North.

“People who are struggling need housing and healthcare, not jail,” said Schreiner. “I know the people of Ontario care about their neighbours. I want us to address the crisis of caring by providing people with the supports they need.”

“I understand that times are tough out there right now. So many families are struggling to get by. That’s exactly why the Ontario Greens are fighting for the fairness you deserve.”
