Patrick Macklem nominated as Ontario Greens candidate in Spadina-Fort York

February 5, 2025

TORONTO — Patrick Macklem has been nominated as the Ontario Greens’ candidate in Spadina-Fort York.

A Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Toronto, Macklem has provided legal advice to the labour movement, Indigenous peoples, and other equity-seeking groups for over 30 years. Macklem ran as an Ontario Greens candidate in the 2022 election and serves as the party’s Justice Critic.

Macklem’s riding is the heart of downtown Toronto. “Toronto is Ontario’s driving force in the pivot to a Green economy and needs the financial means to address the soaring costs of housing and living,” said Macklem.

“Doug Ford’s government needs to be held responsible for their disastrous plan to pave the Greenbelt and rip off Ontarians by spending billions on a highway that won’t fix gridlock.”

“Patrick is a strong advocate for the most vulnerable members of our society, and is someone you can trust to stand up for what is right,” said Ontario Greens’ leader Mike Schreiner. “Throughout his long and distinguished career, he’s always put people before profits and as MPP for Spadina–Fort York, you can trust him to do the same.”

A proud father of four children, Macklem is committed to climate action now and a more sustainable, just economy in Ontario.
