Mike Schreiner calls out Ford’s government for forgetting rural communities in Wellington–Halton Hills with Bronwynne Wilton

January 31, 2025

FERGUS/GEORGETOWN — Mike Schreiner visited Wellington–Halton Hills today alongside local candidate, Centre-Wellington Councillor Bronwynne Wilton, to promote the Ontario Greens’ plan to support rural communities abandoned by Doug Ford’s government.

“We need someone we can trust to take care of our jobs and our communities,” said Wilton. “As your MPP, I’ll fight for your priorities, by delivering better access to healthcare, making housing more affordable, and protecting our farmland. Small urban and rural communities have so much to offer, and we deserve a government that will invest in our success, and by extension, the success of Ontario.”

Ontario Greens are working hard and building momentum in the riding. Wilton’s experience as a local councillor working directly with her community, local municipalities and agricultural societies to deliver sustainable agricultural projects has already established her as a leading voice in the region’s agriculture and agri-food sector.

“Doug Ford is more interested in wasting billions paving over prime farmland and ripping up bike lanes in Toronto than in protecting the people and land we count on to feed our families,” said Schreiner. “He doesn’t understand what farmers and rural communities need and worst of all, he doesn’t care.”

“I’ve been clear to Bronwynne: as MPP for Wellington–Halton Hills, I’m not going to be her boss. The people of Wellington–Halton Hills will be her boss. And we’re out here today to make sure that people here in Fergus, Georgetown, and all across the riding know that we listen to, and act on, their concerns.”

Schreiner and Wilton toured a Youth Mental Health Hub to highlight the need for better access to care in rural communities before canvassing in downtown Fergus. After stopping in Fergus, Schreiner and Wilton continued to Georgetown to hold a meet and greet at the Silver Creek Cafe.

Tomorrow, Schreiner will be in Bruce–Grey–Owen Sound with local candidate Joel Loughead to draw attention to the health care crisis facing rural communities.
