Mark Bekkering nominated as Ontario Greens candidate in Scarborough Southwest
January 23, 2025
TORONTO — Mark Bekkering has been nominated as the Ontario Greens’ candidate in Scarborough Southwest.
Bekkering is a committed community leader with over 30 years of public service experience. Working with the City of Toronto, he spearheaded transformative initiatives including TransformTO, the Home Energy Loan Program, and PollinateTo. His work focuses on balancing climate action with the economic and social needs of his community.
Frustrated by Doug Ford and the previous Liberal government’s failure to address issues like affordable housing, homelessness, climate change and traffic congestion, Bekkering joined the Ontario Greens in 2024.
“I’m excited to run under the Ontario Greens’ banner in the next provincial election,” said Bekkering. “By putting people ahead of corporate profits, we can make a better Ontario for us, and for future generations.”
“Mark is a well-respected community leader who recognizes the need for new, lasting solutions to address the concerns of people in Scarborough Southwest,” said Ontario Greens’ leader Mike Schreiner. “His experience leading innovative sustainability projects proves that we can save people money by saving on energy and I know he has the knowledge and expertise his community needs to advocate for them at Queen’s Park.”
Bekkering has a graduate degree in Geography from Queen’s University and has lived in Scarborough Southwest for over 25 years.
