Schreiner continues Local Champions Tour in Dufferin-Caledon with former Orangeville Mayor Sandy Brown

January 15, 2025

ORANGEVILLE — Ontario Greens' leader Mike Schreiner continued his “Local Champions Tour” in Dufferin-Caledon alongside former Orangeville mayor and local candidate Sandy Brown. The Local Champions Tour highlights the Ontario Greens’ support for local communities abandoned by Doug Ford’s government and spotlights the strong local leaders running for the party in the next provincial election.

“We always need to be thinking about what’s best for our local communities and taking steps to make sure it gets done,” Brown said. “As mayor of Orangeville, I delivered for the local community, and I will continue to do this when elected as Dufferin-Caledon’s MPP.”

“While Doug Ford continues to abandon local rural communities outside Toronto, and Sylvia Jones remains MIA, we need someone we can trust to put our community’s concerns on the map. As our campaign against Sylvia Jones builds momentum, it is clear that the Ontario Greens’ message is resonating with voters in Dufferin-Caledon. People across Dufferin-Caledon are struggling to access healthcare and find an affordable place to live – issues that have gotten worse under Doug Ford since 2018.”

“Sandy is a tireless community advocate with a strong track record of putting people before politics,” said Schreiner. “Seeing what can be accomplished in our communities when local champions put their mind to the task is truly inspiring.”

“While Doug Ford wastes billions of your money on projects like building Highway 413 and tearing down Ontario Place, local community leaders like Sandy are doing the hard work necessary to take care of the people and places we love, and as your MPP, I know he’ll do even more as your voice at Queen’s Park.

Brown and Schreiner visited the Old Orangeville Rail Line Trail System, to see how local communities can transform industrial land into greenspaces and a destination for tourism that boosts the local economy; and the Jean Hamlyn YMCA Daycare, a local daycare Brown fought to keep open after it lost municipal funding.

Brown and Schreiner also took time to meet and to hear directly from local voters.

Schreiner will continue his Local Champions Tour in Wellington–Halton Hills with Centre Wellington Councillor, and local Greens candidate, Bronwynne Wilton.
