Unemployment rates up under Doug Ford

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to new labour force data from StatsCan showing that the Ontario’s unemployment rate climbed to 7.6% in November 2024, the highest level since May 2014 (excluding pandemic years):
“Doug Ford is taking Ontario backwards and abandoning the people of this province.
People can’t find an affordable place to live, and increasingly, they can’t find a job.
Today’s new labour force data from StatsCan shows a concerning trend under this government: since Doug Ford took office in 2018, Ontario’s unemployment rate has increased by 1.7%. Last month was the highest unemployment level in the province in over 10 years, excluding COVID years.
While everyday Ontarians struggle to find an affordable place to live and a job, Doug Ford continues to prop up billionaires and big corporations instead – handing out $200 cheques to billionaires like Galen Weston.
Ontario Greens will continue to fight for a province that puts people before profits.”
