Schreiner applauds Guelph’s vote to stop free ride for Enbridge
December 3, 2024
GUELPH — Ontario Greens Leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that Guelph City Council has passed a motion calling on the Ford government to allow municipalities to charge Enbridge for the use of public lands.
“This is exactly the kind of action we need to see from the Ford government, and I’m proud to stand behind the Guelph community in their calls for an end to Enbridge’s free ride.
The Ford government has allowed fossil fuel interests to stand in the way of our clean energy progress. It’s fuelling climate chaos, hurting our communities and driving up the cost of living.
Ontario Greens’ No Free Ride for Fossil Fuels Act would allow municipalities to charge fossil fuel giants for the use of public land, putting money back into the hands of our communities so they can invest in affordable homes and better public services.
I hope the Premier is paying attention – it’s time to put everyday people over fossil fuel giants.”
