Ford government has abandoned would-be homeowners

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to new data showing housing prices are expected to continue rising sharply across Ontario in 2025.

“Young people are fleeing Ontario in the hundreds of thousands because of our sky-high housing costs. And it’s no wonder.

In Kitchener-Waterloo, housing costs are expected to rise by 6 percent next year. In Simcoe County, it’s 10 percent.

And yet the Ford government still has no plan to build homes people can actually afford. An entire generation is locked out of the housing market and is giving up hope.

We know what will actually bring costs down: legalize gentle density to build more kinds of homes in existing neighbourhoods.

And yet the Ford government has repeatedly said no to doing just that.

Housing is the top concern for so many people right now, and this government has abandoned them.”
