Schreiner demands action on skyrocketing rents
November 26, 2024
QUEEN'S PARK — During today’s Question Period, Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner demanded the Ford government take action to curb skyrocketing rents across the province.
“All across Ontario, working families can’t afford to pay rent in the communities they work in. Rents have skyrocketed since the Ford government was elected,” said Schreiner
“A two-bedroom apartment in Kitchener has gone from $1,485 to $2,282 per month. In London, from $1,309 to $2,190.
“In Toronto, rent increased by more than 40 per cent in the last two years alone to $3,308 per month.
“People are being forced out of the province because they can’t find an affordable place to live.
“But this government keeps saying no to building publicly funded, deeply affordable non-profit and co-op housing.
“Speaker, will the Premier say yes to building deeply affordable non-profit and co-op housing that working families in Ontario desperately need?”
