Housing starts plummet under Ford government

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that Ontario’s Q3 housing starts have declined 16.9 percent year-over-year to just 20,600.
“If anyone needs more proof that this government has no idea how to get homes built, here it is.
Previous FAO data has shown that in order to reach its target of 1.5 million homes by 2031, Ontario would need to build an average of 38,600 units each quarter. The Ford government hasn’t hit that target even once.
Every time the Premier has a chance to course correct, he chooses to side with insider interests and NIMBYism. Ontarians have had enough.
It’s time for a government with a serious housing plan – one to build more homes people can afford in communities they know and love, protect renters and invest in deeply affordable housing.”
