New report shows Ford government MIA on housing

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to a report from Environmental Defense that shows midrise housing is key to meeting Ontario’s housing targets.

“The Ford government holds the keys for unlocking a huge amount of new homes, but refuses to take action.

Legalizing mid-rises and gentle density is the fastest and cheapest way to get more homes built now. By building more kinds of homes where people already live, we can help young Ontarians locked out of the housing market find an affordable place to live, and create more opportunities close to the people and places they love.

Greens have repeatedly put forward solutions to legalize housing across the province – updating outdated planning laws that keep us from building apartments, midrises and other types of missing middle housing.

It’s time for the Premier to stop stalling and say YES to legalizing more kinds of homes in the communities people know and love.”
