Clancy demands an end to mass renovictions in Kitchener

QUEEN'S PARK — In question period today, Ontario Greens Deputy Leader and MPP for Kitchener Centre Aislinn Clancy demanded justice for people who have lost their affordable rental homes to bad-faith evictions.

“In Waterloo Region, for every affordable home built we lose 39,” said Clancy. “This leaves Kitchener with a 0 percent vacancy rate of affordable units, so when someone loses access to their affordable housing, there’s nowhere else for them to go.”

Clancy pointed to recent data and reports showing that one landlord in Southern Ontario, Michael Klein, has been linked to 21 buildings experiencing mass renovictions in seven Ontario cities, including Kitchener.

“Bad-acting landlords like Mr. Klein target legacy tenants in an effort to push them out and raise the rent,” said Clancy.

“What is this government doing to stop bad-acting landlords like Mr. Klein from making the rent-paying seniors of Ontario homeless?”
