Ford government blocking progress on addressing homelessness

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to reports that the federal government is threatening to bypass the provincial government on funding to address encampments in Ontario municipalities.

“Once again, the Ford government is standing in the way of Ontario’s housing progress.

To allow anyone to go through life without a safe place to call home is a complete moral failure, and no responsible government would accept it as a reality in our province.

That the Ford government is not only failing to act, but also standing in the way of federal action, shows exactly how little they care about people experiencing homelessness in our communities.

Greens call on the Ford government to work with the federal government on housing solutions, and commit to ending homelessness through investments in deeply affordable and permanent supportive housing, better access to mental health and addiction services and ending legislated poverty by raising social assistance rates.”
