Schreiner slams Doug Ford’s housing record on first day back at Queen’s Park
October 21, 2024
QUEEN'S PARK — In the first question period following an extended legislated break, Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner slammed the Ford government’s failure to deliver on affordable homes for the people of Ontario.
“People across the province cannot find an affordable place to call home,” said Schreiner.
“Full-time workers are unable to rent in the communities they work in. Young people are leaving Ontario because they can’t afford the sky-high housing costs.”
Year-to-date housing starts in Ontario have decreased across all housing types, said Schreiner, and the Ford government’s failure to legalize more kind of housing types – like multiplexes and midrise apartments – is making things worse and driving up housing costs.
“The provincial government holds the keys for unlocking a huge amount of new homes, but refuses to budge,” said Schreiner.
“Will the Premier stop saying no to affordable homes and say yes to legalizing more kinds of homes in the communities people know and love?”
