Highway 401 tunnel is not a serious plan

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to expert insight that the cost of the Ford government’s tunnel under the 401 would be “astronomical.”:

“It’s been 24 hours since Doug Ford made his ridiculous tunnel announcement, and already the warnings from experts about everything from enormous costs to impossible timelines are piling up.

Over and over, Doug Ford has shown he does not have a serious plan to deal with the problems Ontarians are facing – whether it’s on how people commute or on housing.

Just yesterday, a new report showed that the pace of home construction in Ontario has never been further behind our population growth in the last 50 years.

Greens continue to advocate for reducing gridlock on the 401 immediately by paying the tolls of truckers on the 407; legalizing housing so people can live in the communities they love; and increasing affordable choices to move around by biking, walking and transit.

That’s a real plan to reduce gridlock and make it easier and more affordable to get around.”
