Ford’s Highway 413 obsession making gridlock worse

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner responds to Premier Ford’s comments to ‘build the damn highway’:

“Doug Ford’s obsession with highways is going to make gridlock even worse.

We need more affordable choices for people to commute and move around. But Ford is taking away those choices in his push to ban bike lanes and increase gridlock through more highways and expensive sprawl that make commute times worse while destroying the nature that protects us from flooding.

Just last week, Environmental Defence released a new report highlighting the devastating impact of Highway 413 on critical watersheds, contaminating rivers and razing wetlands – essential to protecting people from floods.

Premier: environmental assessments are more than just about ‘a grasshopper jumping across a highway’. It’s about protecting the nature that protects us free of charge.

Greens will continue to lead the fight to cancel Highway 413 at Queen’s Park and ensure people have affordable choices to get around.”
