Unserious: Ford’s bike lane restrictions in a nutshell
September 20, 2024
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to reports that the Ford government plans to table legislation to restrict the construction of bike lanes on city streets.
“This is an unserious proposal from an unserious government that doesn’t have a plan to tackle gridlock.
There is literally no evidence that bike infrastructure makes traffic worse. What does make traffic worse is building communities where residents have no other option but to drive in order to get where they need to go.
If we want to solve our traffic problems, we need to give people more affordable choices in how they get around – like the choice to bike, walk or take public transit instead of being stuck in gridlock for hours on end.
Making it harder for people to bike is not only going to make traffic worse – it’s going to put cyclists in danger and lead to more deaths.”
