“Just my personal opinion”: Schreiner calls out Premier’s skewed stance on SCTS closures

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to Premier Ford’s comment that it is “just [his] personal opinion” that supervised consumption and treatment “does not work.”

“With his comments today, Premier Ford has confirmed what experts have been saying all along.

His attacks on harm reduction are not rooted in evidence and certainly not rooted in expert advice. They are based on his own distorted viewpoint that denies substance users the right to low-barrier, judgement-free healthcare.

These cuts will claim lives. They will lead to more disease spread, more public substance use, and more drug poisonings showing up in our ERs.

Once again, I call on the Premier and the Minister of Health to reverse the closures and properly invest in harm reduction as part of a comprehensive plan to provide low-barrier mental health and addictions care to every single Ontarian who needs it.”
