Sprawl, sprawl and more sprawl: Ford’s vision for Ontario

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the Ford government’s consolidation of the Provincial Planning Statement and the Growth Plan for Greater Golden Horseshoe:

“Turbo-charging costly sprawl. Paving over prime farmland and watersheds. Forcing urban boundary expansions onto communities that don’t want them. This is the Ford government’s vision for Ontario.

This government’s repeated attacks on smart planning are making the housing crisis worse and costing all of us.

Yesterday’s changes to the provincial planning statement once again prioritize costly sprawl over smart planning that would get more homes built within existing neighbourhoods.

We need a government with a serious housing plan – one that stops sprawl and legalizes gentle density to build more homes people can afford in communities they already know and love.”
