Ford government failing to keep Ontarians housed

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to reporting showing that the Ford government estimates Ontario has an unhoused population of at least 234,000.

“These are the real-life impacts of this government’s utter failure on the housing crisis.

To allow nearly 250,000 people to go through life without a safe place to live is a complete moral failure, and no responsible government would accept this as a reality in our province.

This is an emergency, and we need to treat it accordingly.

Greens call on the Ford government to immediately declare homelessness a public health emergency across Ontario and commit to solving it through investments in deeply affordable and permanent supportive housing, better access to mental health and addiction services and ending legislated poverty by raising social assistance rates.”
