Ford government forcing seniors into nursing homes they didn’t choose

GUELPH — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that 424 hospital patients have been forced into Ontario nursing homes they did not choose under the Ford government’s Bill 7.

“Ontarians will never forget or forgive this government’s legacy of forcing seniors into nursing homes they did not choose and do not want, far from friends and family.

These forced moves are cruel and short-sighted, and do nothing to address the systemic issues facing our healthcare system. To hear that they are becoming more frequent is extremely alarming, and the government should be ashamed of itself.

Once again, I call on the Minister of Health to put an immediate end to this harmful practice and commit to fixing the crisis in our hospitals through proper funding for our frontline healthcare workers.”
