Greens join youth advocates calling on Ford government to get off fossil gas
May 6, 2024
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner and Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy joined youth advocates calling on the government to get off fossil gas and transition to cleaner, cheaper electricity sources.
“In Doug Ford’s Ontario, our grid is getting dirtier,” said Clancy. “His continued investment in fossil gas plants is putting our health, our economy and our future at risk.”
“Wind and solar are now our cheapest and cleanest source of electricity,” said Mary Blake Rose, Deputy Project Manager for Citizens’ Climate Lobby Canada. “This government is making decisions that put our children’s future in danger.”
“Ontario needs to phase out polluting gas power and restart our renewable energy efforts,” said Robert, an 11-year-old climate advocate. “I’m just a kid. I want the same chance to grow up happy and healthy as all of you did.”
“While the rest of the world moves full speed ahead toward the clean energy transition, Ontario is falling behind,” said Schreiner. “It’s bad for our health, it’s bad for our wallets, and it’s not fair to younger generations who want a future they can look forward to.”
Greens were also joined by Grace Kuang, a medical student at the University of Toronto, as well as members of Citizens Climate Lobby Canada, For Our Kids Toronto, CAPE Ontario, Seniors for Climate Action Now Toronto and Toronto East End Residents for Renewable Energy.
