“There’s a bright future ahead”: Mike Schreiner speaks at NOMA 2024
April 25, 2024
THUNDER BAY — Speaking to delegates at the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association’s 2024 conference and AGM, Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner called for a new deal for Ontario’s North.
“Like everyone in this room, I believe there is a bright future ahead for Ontario’s North,” said Schreiner. “But we need a government prepared to invest in that future and the people who will power it.”
“We need a government that’s ready to get serious about solving the housing crisis by building affordable, connected communities with a range of housing options that people – especially young people – are looking for.
“We need a government that’s ready to invest in rural and remote healthcare, especially the doctors, nurses and frontline workers who deliver that care.
“We need a government willing to work with you to address the intersecting crises of poverty, mental health, addictions and homelessness.
“A government with the vision to seize the opportunities for jobs and prosperity in the fast-growing climate economy, positioning Northern communities to attract more of the $1.8 trillion investors poured into the green transition last year.
“The solutions are staring us in the face, and Ontario Greens are committed to delivering them – working to build more caring, connected, climate-ready communities across Ontario’s North.”
