Ford government further weakening Ontario’s environmental safeguards
March 22, 2024
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy released the following statement in response to news that the Ford government is proposing regulatory amendments under the Environmental Bill of Rights that would exempt five types of orders from consultation.
“Since taking office, this government has done everything in its power to weaken our province’s environmental safeguards and sidestep public consultation – and this proposal is the latest example.
The Environmental Bill of Rights already allows for exemptions in case of emergencies, so there is absolutely no need for the exemptions this government has proposed.
Further weakening of the laws that protect our farms, forests and wetlands from deep-pocketed Ford-connected insiders is the last thing our province needs.
Ontario Greens will continue fighting to defend the province’s Environmental Bill of Rights and ensure that our communities’ calls for better environmental stewardship are heard loud and clear.”
